Feb 10 - Doctors

This particular week in February I took the kids to the dentist and the doctor. By myself. I know that's not a big deal for all you normal moms out there, but Paul usually goes with me to these types of activities and he has since D was a baby (which helps my stress level immensely). He has just been too busy working for me to talk him into taking a nice mid-day break to take the kids to the dentist. "There won't be any screaming or crying, I promise! It will be super relaxing!" So I had to suck it up and do it myself. And it wasn't too bad.

First we went to the dentist. D got "pictures" taken of his teeth then got his teeth cleaned, painted with fluoride, and examined by the dentist. He wasn't happy about any of it, but he didn't cry. He did keep his eyes shut most of the time. Lieutenant refused to lay down on the chair (it was his first time ever at the dentist) so I held him on my lap. He screamed the entire time, but it wasn't so bad. The best news of all (not their goody bags) was that nobody had any cavities. This is a major event for D, who usually has a cavity. (He had his first cavity before he was one.) The dentist commented to me that I would probably be happy when D's baby teeth fell out, to which I enthusiastically replied yes! Those poor little teeth are pretty worked. No cavities for Lieutenant is extra awesome - hopefully his little teeth will be a bit tougher than D's. And D loved loved loved his goody bag (and Lieutenant's) - flossers, toothbrushes, toys, stickers... Lieutenant didn't care much about his goody bag; he was just happy to get out of there and eat a banana. Bless the hearts of all pediatric dentists and assistants in the world.

Then a couple days later we headed to the doctor for Lieutenant's 18-month appointment. Again, he screamed the whole time, but it was okay. No shots either, which was super fantastic! He is growing right on schedule and is a happy, healthy little guy. He still isn't talking a ton, but when D and I started listing off the words that he says, I realized it is more than I thought! I should also mention here that his first word was "color". Other words he says are cool, bro, ma, da, nana, pa, ball, car, bowl, more, yeah, balloon, and he makes tons of animal noises which the doctor says counts as words. And now for the stats... he is 32" (D was 30") and weighs 22 lbs 12 oz (D was 19 lbs 11 oz). No wonder D's clothes seemed to last so much longer on him than they are on Lieuten!!
