Just a couple of days after Nono turned two he went to the doctor's for his yearly checkup. In all honesty, I can't remember a whole lot about the visit! I don't think he even got any shots. Wait, maybe he did? Yes, I think he did. Or maybe he didn't. Oh well, either way, he's growing and healthy as a horse (a very small, small horse). He weighed almost 21 pounds and measured exactly 32 inches tall.
Now on to the good stuff about our little two-year-old...
Nono has become quite the little boss
lately, insomuch that his nickname is quickly changing from Nono to "the
Boss". I'd say it's 75% the Boss, 25% Nono. He's pretty bossy. But we
still like him. Paul and I were just discussing how he's the main
offender in the house now (with Lt at a very close 2nd). He watches all the
monkey business his older brothers are up to and copies them immediately. Boss has taken to "hitting" lately (for no reason other than to hit) and as soon as somebody
complains he quickly follows-up by saying "pat-pat" and then dishes out a
few more hearty pats, or he says "tickle, tickle" in a high-pitched voice while
pretending to tickle. Then we all laugh. Rinse and repeat.
He even has his own theme song that we all sing together daily:
First singer: "Who's the bossiest bear in town?"
Everyone all together (including Nono): "Nono! Nono!"
First singer: "Who's the bossiest bear around?"
Everyone all together (again, including Nono): "Nono! Nono!"
His little habit of carrying something around in each hand is still going strong. He always has to have something in his hands - cars, animals, balls, marbles, or whatever else he can find. And he always has to take something with him to his crib for naps and bedtime. He went through an awful phase where he had to take ALL of his Cars car to his crib. All 500 of them. And he could somehow sense if some were missing and would cry for "more Cars cars" until he got more Cars cars. He does still take some Cars cars into his crib, but it's been whittled down to a much more manageable number and they are now referred to as the "new Cars cars" (because he got a few new ones while Nana and Papa were visiting last). He usually chucks them all out of his bed before he goes to sleep, but on occasion we have to to quietly remove them from his crib (and from under his body) while he's asleep.
Nono is a talking machine. He talks so much now - it's great. He makes an excellent parrot and will copy whatever he hears somebody else say. We can understand almost everything he says and it's so fun to hear what's going on in his little mind (usually through his choppy three- or four-word sentences). Of course, my favorite words from his mouth are "uv oo" (love you).
Things that the Boss does every day (usually without fail):
- Plays the monkey game (an actual kids' board game that he insists on getting out every day, dumping out all the little pieces, playing with for a few minutes, and then he's done). Awesome.
- Builds a marble track. This can either mean an actual marble track or a Hot Wheels track; essentially anything that he can race marbles down.
- Dumps out the jar of marbles. Yes there are lot of marbles.
- Reads Thomas the Train books waaaaaaaay too many times. And Cars cars books. (This of course means that I am the one reading Thomas books all day.)
- Dropkicks various balls, usually right in somebody's face.
- Fakes numerous injuries and then asks for a piggyback to his crib where he can sit and feel bad for himself (he does sustain a few actual injuries from time to time).
- Tries unceasingly to "check phone, please??" (my cell phone) so he can "play" Angry Birds.
- Eats my dark chocolate. Little bugger.
- Wanders around the backyard while the boys play some sort of ball. (He loves to play in the water, but we had to cut back on that due to the temperature change and the huge eczema flare-ups he was getting on his ankles, most likely from hours of wearing soggy socks and shoes. Anyone know where I can buy flip-flops in September??)
And that's a look at the Boss at two. He's a sweet little boy who will still snuggle and doles out the hugs and kisses generously. He adores his brothers. He's happy and very considerate. And a little bossy.
