So after the parade was over, we headed to Nana and Papa's to recharge before the activities at the park began (watching all those ATVs drive by can really wear you out!). We spent a little too much time recharging and missed almost all of the kids' races. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on whom you ask), we did make it in time for the somersault race...
The boys on the starting line
Lt kind of going the wrong way
D did somersault race #2 by himself - one was plenty for Lt.
And this is what you look like after two somersault races.
Waiting for the big boys
Still waiting...
------------
After the kids' races it was time for the famous money grab that the boys refused to participate in last year but we somehow managed to talk them into doing this year. (Money grab = firetruck on the street spraying water on the kids while they try to pick up as much money as possible) Lt's age group was up first, so Paul went with him to collect some coins. He was a pretty happy boy! (For future reference: Lt's group was one of the youngest so they didn't actually spray much water at the kids.)
------------
Then it was D's turn to go. Lt really, really wanted to go back in with Paul and D, so after a few minutes Paul took him in too. Lots more water was sprayed at the kids in D's group, and Lt was no longer a happy boy. Don't worry, after it was all over and he counted his spoils, he was once again a happy boy. I think he got close to five dollars! D got a couple of dollars too. Nono got a nap.
------------
And to end the fun-filled day, we watched the fireworks from Nana and Papa's lawn. Aside from the light rain and the freaked out dog that blindly charged at us (dogs hate fireworks), it was a pretty good ending to a pretty good day!
