For the birds

Don't panic! We have still been doing crafts, I just haven't had a chance to do a blog. Thanks to a Spring-themed book from the library, D and I got the great idea to make a bird feeder. We looked at some different construction plans on the Internet and then just kind of rolled our own. We had fun making the bird feeder, we just wish some birds would eat out of it already!

This craft was longer in the making than our usual crafts. First we had to wait for the Lieutenant to hurry up and drink all of his milk. Then we washed, dried, and cut.

Then we got out mommy's paints and painted. Isn't that paint job awesome? It was all D's idea. I think it looks cool - like sticks. (D was making this face for so many pictures. When I asked him why he kept making that face he said he was a squirrel. Fair enough.)

Then we waited for daddy to have a free minute to come punch a hole in the top of the milk carton so we could hang it up. And then we went outside and found some sticks to glue to the top for the roof (and a big stick for the birds to perch on).

Then we had to wait a few days so mommy could go get some bird food at the store. Turns out, bird food is ridiculously expensive!! So we just used some stuff around the house that birds supposedly like (along with some sunflower seeds that I did buy).

Then we filled up the bird feeder.

Then D got a hold of the camera.

Then we hung the bird feeder up in the tree. And a few hours later we took the bird feeder down due to scheduled rain/snow (nobody likes soggy food). We hung it up again this morning and waited all day for some birds to come eat out of it. I mean, we didn't literally sit at the window all day, but sheesh - no birds showed up! Our resident squirrel got pretty close though (not D - an actual squirrel)...

D is so industrious! And I think he did a great job on his own photo. This kid has real possibilities!
