Well, this post would be more appropriately titled, "Look how much I haven't grown". D's 18-month checkup was today and here are his stats:
Length: 30" (5%)
Weight: 19 lbs 11 oz (5%)
Head circumference: 48.5 cm (75%)
So he's getting taller and his head is getting bigger, but the skinny little bugger hasn't even gained half a pound since his 15-month checkup!! The doctor said it wasn't terrible, but "noteworthy" rather. We are supposed to fatten him up and go back in two months to see how he's progressing. I was so excited too thinking that he wouldn't have to go back until he turned two! Now, the biggest hurdle in this whole development is how to fatten the boy up. He doesn't eat. Let me rephrase that, he doesn't eat well. He doesn't like milk (I've tried chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, etc.). He doesn't really like juice. He refuses to eat what we eat for meals and usually ends up eating baby food. We even tried to put real butter on his toast and he wouldn't eat it. On the list of things he does eat are mac & cheese, toast, yogurt, fruit leather, cheese, fruits, cereal, french fries, and snack crackers/cookies; but apparently, this scanty diet is not providing D the bulk up he needs. So I am soliciting any advice on how to pack in the calories. Seriously, any ideas are MORE.THAN.WELCOME.
While D is doing all of the normal things that babies his age do, like walking, running, feeding himself, stacking blocks, scribbling with crayons, hugging his toys, talking on the phone, naming body parts, making animal noises, etc., he still is not talking. So we will be following up with that at the next two-month visit also unless he has the predicted lingual explosion that often happens at about this age.
And my last comment on today's adventure is, do these immunizaion shots EVER end?? D of course knew exactly what was coming since he had to get a shot last week when he was sick. He only had to get one shot today, but then they decided to test his iron levels to make sure they were okay (which they were) and so he had to get his toe pricked too for a little blood sample. We tried to act excited about the "stickers" they put on his toe and leg after the shots, but that was, alas, only a temporary distraction. He is still whimpering and pointing at his toe when he sees the band-aid...

poor little guy....I don't know what to tell you except pump up the amount of cheese :)and french fries. How bout adding weight gainers to whatever liquid he will drink...like a protein shake :) just kidding...
Actually our pediatrician told me to put carnation stuff in Sweetsa's drink (milk). He also said don't give her noodles or soup without adding sour cream. Any cracker or cookie-type thing she was supposed to eat with cream cheese. And it also got to the point he was telling me that if we had it, to let her have half and half or full on cream (I know that's an issue if he doesn't like milk at all) We didn't give her cream, cause it's just so darn expensive, but we did put half and half on her cereal. With him eating baby food, I'd try the sour cream first ...this also goes really well in mac and cheese. I've also started putting cream cheese in mashed potatoes(which she loves). Good luck! She still isn't gaining huge amounts of weight, but she has gotten up to 19lbs!
