St. Patrick of Buchananomics

Growing up, I don't remember doing anything extraordinary for St. Patrick's Day. I mean, we wore green, but that's about all I remember (sorry mom if there was more). So when St. Patty's rolled around, I felt myself trying to scramble to make something of the day for D. I tried to explain to him what the day meant but gave up about halfway through (I could only imagine how the concepts "Irish", "Ireland", "Christianity", and "Saint" were going over for a three-year-old [and I'm not much into leprechauns]). So in the end, we wore green! And hung up some lovely, homemade shamrocks from the chandelier to join us for dinner (actually, to join us for the month - those suckers are staying up there for a while!). I tried to do a few St. Patty's activities/crafts with D, but he wasn't very interested. I contemplated coloring his mac'n'cheese green, but then I figured that he probably wouldn't eat it if I did. Maybe next year I can be as resourceful and amazing as this gal!

What a good mom you are with this St. Patty activity stuff! Now I feel bad, my kids didn't even know why they were wearing green!

This year I FINALLY thought ahead, and bought some green tinsel from Michael's, and some Lucky Charms for the leprechaun to leave. (We NEVER have sugar cereal, so this is a big treat.) I was really excited, but then I ended up in the hospital, where I missed all the excitement of the morning. Instead, all I got was a phone call from a frantic Eric wondering where he could find green clothes for the kids to wear to school. Best of intentions, right?
