Our first stop - the turkeys, geese, and ducks. I remember last year D was looking under, not over, the top of this fence.

D is waiting with baited breath for the zoo train to pick him up. Can't you see the anticipation on his little face?

The 1.5 minute ride on the zoo train was definitely the highlight of the zoo for D. Anyone in their right mind would never recommend this attraction to a prospective zoo-goer; it is definitely not worth the $1 (per person) to ride. Having said that, with a little boy who was beyond excited to ride on the train (even though I think the only actual animal we saw was a bison...which was pretty sketchy...), it was so worth all FIVE dollars that were forked over to go on the train (thanks Nana and Papa).

This little shrew (we call it a squirrel) was one of D's favorite animals. I think he liked it because it looked like a squirrel and got so close to him.

Upon departure, D scored a sweet little souvenir from the gift shop (thanks again Nana and Papa). He got to pick out his own little animals to take home and he was in heaven. He played with those little guys exclusively for the rest of the night and pretty much the entire next day. I think they were almost as good as the actual zoo for him!

Oh how fun! Next time, I'm coming too!
How fun! I desperately need to take Dayne and Bridget there. I haven't been since my 18th birthday. Pretty random I know but that shows that I have yet to take my kids. I'm a poor excuse for a mom. We have been to the Thanksgiving point farm-if that counts.
So, just today I was thinking that I am excited to take Charlie to the zoo. I guess he's a little young still to fully enjoy it like D. I loved going to that zoo as a kid. My parents lived in U of U student housing (right down the street) so we went lots.
And about the crying it out thing. I did do it to teach him how to fall asleep when we put him down for the night. And it worked like a charm. In about 4 days! I lay him down in bed, he babbles, sometimes cries for a second, and then he's out.
But when he would wake in the night I would always just go in there and stuff his binkie in his mouth instead of letting him learn like I did earlier. I couldn't face the crying in the midnight hours! I guess I was hoping that there was another way, because hearing him cry in the middle of the night is the worst! But we did it last night, and he cried for a while, but he eventually fell asleep and slept until 6 am! A first. So I'm dedicated now. I think after this week is over, we may have a a baby who sleeps close to 10-12 hours a night! And having him go to bed so easy is helping me in the night. If I can teach him to fall back asleep on his own... VICTORY! and I'm doing this all without the binkie (our foe in this whole waking in the night saga) It's hard though! I know you don't believe in this method. What do you do?
We need to go visit Hogle Zoo---how fun
