You must be five!

That's what we say to D now whenever he does something he couldn't (or wouldn't) do before. It makes it pretty magical when just because it's your birthday everything changes and you are all of a sudden capable of doing way more than you could literally the day before.

Here's D checking out his birthday decorations first thing in the morning before anybody was awake (except Paul). He was pretty excited about his SF Giants decorations (in case you thought it was Halloween) and the bases that were set up on the family room floor (no more books or rocks for bases!).

D is enjoying a delicious bowl of birthday cold cereal. He had birthday cold cereal for lunch too.

After lunch Paul and the boys headed to Toys'R'Us so D could collect his birthday crown and balloon and spend the three dollars that Toys'R'Us sent to him for his birthday. And he took his piggy bank with him just in case. Instead of coming back with a car or something that three dollars would purchase, he came back with a marble tower (he played with one at a friend's house and loved it)! He spent all of his money and all of Lt's money (they are currently sharing a piggy bank). He came home with two cents in his bank.

D wanted to have a pizza party for his birthday dinner. Papa made a chef's hat for him and D had little order forms that he took everyone's orders on.

I don't know what is going on here, but this may be my favorite picture. Ever. D looks like he has a mustache, compliments of Oreo cookies (What!!!? He at an Oreo??!? He must be five!) and Lieutenant is just in the background with his camera face on.

I think D had a lot of fun making everyone's pizzas, except for the part where he had to touch the olives. And don't worry, even though he made the pizzas himself, he did not eat any pizza at all. He had a jam sandwich.

After dinner Paul, Papa, Uncle Jeff, and the little boys all went mini-golfing. The boys of course had a great time, which means it was a nightmare (meant in the nicest way) for the adults. Lt's agenda was to collect all of the balls. As soon as somebody hit a ball, it was a foot race against Lt to see who would get to the ball first. He just wanted to get everyone else's golf balls!

D wanted a Giants cake for his birthday. I told him no because I didn't even know what that meant. Then I went online to see if I could find any ideas. And I did. There was a very cool baseball hat cake, but it was black and I didn't want to use a ton of food coloring. Then I found this jersey cake - perfect (minus the part where there were no instructions)! With a little help from my mom (meaning she did pretty much the entire thing), I think we pulled it off!! I'm just glad he's five and thought it was cool regardless of all of my frosting blunders. Go Giants!

Takes a lot of air to blow out five candles!

And it wouldn't be a birthday without a rowdy picture of Lt eating ice cream (gotta have a picture of somebody eating something!). I think D was provided with a small slice of cake, a jersey sleeve I believe, but wouldn't eat it because it had one small line of chocolate frosting on it!

D got some really fun presents (thanks everyone!) and is still playing with them all.

Lucky for Lt, Grandma B brought him a present too - an extra large magnifying glass for looking at ants. And this is how he always "uses" it. He loves it.

Happy birthday D! We hope you had a really fun and special day. We are happy that we get to be your parents. You are so bright, happy, energetic, caring, and you are such a super big brother. We are excited to see all of the great new things you are going to do now that you are five! We love you!

The parenthetical (is that a word?) side comments are my favorite. You seriously crack me up like no other. Miss you tons...can't believe you have a five-year-old!

Ang, I'm pretty sure you are one of the "funnest" moms ever! What a party! And I love that D asks for things he doesn't eat...kinda reminds me of someone else we know, doesn't it? ;)
