The Caliente installment

A couple of weeks ago we made the trek south to Caliente to visit Nana and Papa. Turns out, Snacks is not a car traveler. No amount of Coldplay or noisy roads (aka white noise) could keep the kid asleep for more than 90 minutes. That left three hours (both ways) of crabby Snacks wanting to get out of his car seat. We endured and as a result had a lovely vacation in the hot desert. It was actually overcast most of the time we were there, and we welcomed the thundering clouds and cool breezes. Now for the picture synopsis of our trip (which does not include all the yummy food consumed, Snacks not sleeping practically the entire first night we were there, 13000 games of Uncle Wiggily played, extraordinary company, weed pulling in Papa's garden, and Snacks and D crawling all over Nana and Papa's house literally the entire time we were there).

Again with the cats (their fan base has grown - by one)

Living out of our suitcases

Every night after dinner we went to the park where D performed sketchy maneuvers that nearly gave me heart failure. Snacks tried to eat bark.

Oh, the Micro Machines...too bad they don't make them anymore. D is a big fan.

Every morning Snacks would climb up Nana's leg and yell until she let him eat her apple.

Prior to this trip D was constantly begging to go to Caliente to visit Nana and Papa. "Let's go to Nana and Papa's house after dinner." I would always try to explain that we couldn't just up and go to Caliente because it is far away. It never really registered. On the drive down when we were about an hour away from Caliente D asked why it was taking so long. Paul told him that it was because Caliente is really far away. "I don't like really far away."

How is it that trips are SO much fun, yet so much work that as you're trying to entertain a baby during the car ride or get him to sleep at night, you're wondering if it's really worth it or not? The things we do for our kids, right?
