The stats

We took the boys (that's fun to say!) to the doctor this week for their two-week and three-year checkups. We are happy to report that both boys are doing well.

D is now exactly three feet tall - he actually made it on the growth chart (for height) for the first time ever! The doc says that he is tall for his weight, which is not on the chart but still okay since it never has been. He also got two shots, which we were not planning on, so he was not prepared. Oops. And the nurse was the slowest shot-giver EVER. It seemed almost as painful to watch as it was for D. Usually those nurses are darn fast at the shots, but this was like watching slow motion...poor kid. He actually didn't cry on the first shot, which was amazing, but by the time the second one rolled around he was not happy. He proceeded to walk around for the rest of the day (the entire day) with a stiff leg. It was totally hilarious. The next morning when he woke up he told us that his stiff leg was all better and that he could run fast again. Whew!

Our biggest surprise came when little B-boy hopped on the scale (okay, when I put him on the scale). He weighed 7 lbs 9 oz! We are not familiar with this kind of weight gain. Both boys were practically the same size when they were born, D was 6 lbs 13 oz and B-boy was 6 lbs 12 oz, and both were 19 inches. When we took D for his two-week appointment he was 6 lbs 15 oz, so to have B-boy weigh in at over 7 lbs was so cool! (Granted, it wasn't D's fault he was skinny since he was throwing up all the time from his acid reflux.) B-boy had to do his PKU also, which meant squeezing what seemed like a bazillion drops of blood out of his little heel. He screamed the whole time, which distracted D from the aftermath of his shots. The doc told us that we just have to be in survival mode for the next couple of months with B-boy and then after that things should be manageable (not that things are necessarily out of control now). B-boy also has lots of gas (like father like son). Any tricks for gas relief (for the baby)??

sounds like baby # 2 is a breath of fresh air and delivery/recovery #2 has gone smoother than the first time around. It was the same with us. The first time around I was stressed and had lots of issues with K. L was fresh air. So easy and #3 was even easier!!

How funny. I am happy that B is growing and that both are well and hopefully fully recovered from the shots and blood squeezes. We used Walmart brand Mylocon drops for both babes. Major massaging of the tummy (works for adults too :D) to break it up and those lil drops were the best we could come up with. Bridget had major colic so I cut out a lot of stuff that I was eating that was getting into the breast milk but that might be a totally different story. If you are nursing these foods cause gas: dairy, cauliflower, broccoli, caffeine and chocolate. It stunk but cut down the gas a lot. Good luck.

Big boy B!

D is sooo funny, he is much more interested in B than Isaac was with Matthew.

Paul was in Provo this weekend for the BYU game--he and Isaac went, it was just a there and back trip, next time we will all come down and say HI!

I am so glad everything is going so well. Hopefully soon the whole family can be healthy enough to come and visit the new baby. Right now we are still up to our elbows in runny noses. YUK!

Oh I love this new little baby b. What a looker. As far as gas goes...gripe water works well. And the special "baby bounce" with baby on your hip and their belly pressed against your forearm. That worked with Isla. It is a phase I am sure, so he will mature and the gas won't be so bad. I am so happy this recovery has been easier on you. Your boys are adorable!

I love being able to combine big and little kid dr visits! All of (my) Baby B's check ups have also been well checks for Sweetsa and Buddy. And D is a whole 3 inches taller than Sweetsa. Way to go, D!

One way I helped Baby B when she had bad gas at first was to bend her knees into her tummy. It didn't reduce the gas, just helped her get it out when she was having the gassy cramps that made her cry.

Good luck!
