Video junkie

Lately D has become obsessed with watching himself on the video camera. He can sit and watch the same eight minutes of himself over and over and over and over and over until either we take it away from him (not without a fight) or we finish up whatever we needed just a few more minutes to do (I know that's probably bad - but is it as bad as letting him watch TV?).

During his phenomenal eight-minute monologue on tape, he spins in circles, falls flat on his face, bonks me on the head, says "apple" (his first official word!), and performs "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and "Once There Was a Snowman" about 10 times each. Sometimes while watching his performance, he appears to be deep in thought, I'm sure being overly critical about his performance and what he could've done better:

Other times, he finds himself to be quite the comedian, and I'm sure almost pees his pants from laughing so hard...oh wait...

And other times, while he won't admit it for fear of losing video camera privileges, he is just flat out bored with himself:

The video camera is currently residing under one of the couch pillows.

Oh my sweet little baby Barker. I am jealous baby's can watch themselves for so long without wanting to go see a speech therapist. Or maybe that is just how I feel after I see/hear myself on tape. If I were Davis I would definitely have some bloating of the self-esteem.

Seriously so funny! It sounds like you've got quite the performer on your hands. I wouldn't feel bad about setting him in front of the tv/camera like that. He's just working on his skillz!!! When A-girl was about D's age she loved to watch herself in the mirror, like that. She LOVED to watch herself cry and would sit there for quite a while making faces at herself. Silly kids!

HA! Henry is a little narcissistic too--LOVES to see himself on film or in pictures. A stage, perhaps? Although, at the core, I think we're all a little self-promoting, wouldn't you say? Thanks for visiting my blog--I've heard so much about you from Kate (all good!) I'm so glad you emerged from lurkerhood (Confession: I've totally lurked on yours too :) Keep coming! Keep commenting! I love new friends :)
