More

D is becoming more confident about walking now. We don’t have to coax him to walk back and forth between us anymore; we often just find him teetering around on his own (with one arm up in the air of course…for balance…). He gets better every day and hopefully will steady his gait pretty soon here so I can stop panicking every time he sets foot on the wood floor. He sustained his first walking injury yesterday when he crashed into his garbage can. He got a little cut on the inside of his lip and a scrape on his chin. After the 30 seconds of sobbing he was fine (nothing a little light switch flipping couldn’t cure).

We inadvertently taught D the sign language for “more”. We were babysitting Makenzie one afternoon and taught her how to do it. She picked up on it really fast and it was so cute! Well, a few days later, D all of a sudden was doing it too without us even trying to get him to and now he does it all the time. While D does use the sign appropriately when he wants more, he also uses it when he wants anything. So if he wants, for instance, the computer, he will sign “more” and point to the computer. Ha ha! We also taught him the sign for “ball”, which, for little hands, is much too close to “more” so he ends up signing “more” for ball now too. He is getting good at waving hello and goodbye now. Three out of five times he will wave goodbye while the person leaving is still there (before he would wave after they were long gone).

He is getting very good at identifying various body parts now. He is especially good at pointing to his nose, when just a week or two ago when we would ask him where his nose was it was an accomplishment if he pointed anywhere on his face. He really likes to point to his toes (unless he’s kneeling and can’t find them) and he likes to point to other people’s ears. He’s learning bellybutton and eyes too.

I am trying to teach him animal sounds. He has mastered the fish, which requires no sound at all. He opens and closes his mouth to replicate my fish face with a smug little grin on his face. So he’s the strong, silent type. Paul swears he said his first word the other day, and we even have it on video for Paul’s proving. I kind of think it just sounds like his usual gibberish, but Paul is convinced, so maybe we’ll just go with it. His first word was besos (kisses in Spanish), a much better first word than mommy or daddy I think! He will be such a loving little boy!

And finally, here is a picture of D with his popper toy that Grandma and Grandpa gave him. While he is still too unsteady in his walking to push it himself, he sure does love to push his little car/walker around the house while someone chases him with the popper (usually Paul’s job…I run out of breath too fast).

So cute! That's great that he's walking without being coaxed...Aiden still needs two people between him to do it. I see that you're rolling down D's pants...I have to do that for Aiden too...too big for 6-9 month pants but too small around the waist for 12 months...we just have tiny boys!
