A lot of hearts

D stayed home from school on Valentine's Day because he was sick. The other boys were sick too, but not as sick as D. He was pretty miserable. So I tried to think of some fun things we could do since he was stuck home and missing out on his fun Valentine's Day party at school. Well, not soon after the crafting and sheer glee commenced, D was hit in the face by a "boomerang heart" (courtesy of Lt) and declared it the worst Valentine's Day ever. It's hard to recover from that.

But the day started off pretty good, with lots of love notes on the boys' door from mom and dad.

Here are D and Nono with their boomerang hearts (they're really tissue paper hearts that are supposed to look like stained glass). They were fun to make and it was a good craft for all ages...except one (literally and figuratively)...

I was so careful not to let Nono get a hold of a heart, but he's lightning quick. And sneaky. So here we have a broken heart.

He's borrowing brother's heart for a picture.

After lunch (tortillas cut into heart shapes really went over big with the 6 and under crowd) when Nono was all tucked in for a nap, we started rolling out the sugar cookies. I really knew D wasn't feeling well when he didn't feel like cutting shapes or frosting. So it was me and Lt. (Look, we have the same hair!)

Here's my chef buddy with our pretty cookies that were soooooo yummy (you never know how sugar cookies will turn out when you only make them two or three times a year and use a different recipe every time because you can't remember which one you used last or if it even tasted good...).

And lastly, here is Lt showing off some more of the boys' cute decorations that will be on display until March 1 when St. Patrick gives them the boot.

And don't think for a minute that Nono would let Lt climb all over the kitchen table (the forbidden zone) without him getting in on the action. No way. And he was super, super mad when I got him down. Super mad.

Fortunately, by the end of the day all hard feelings were mended and the boys were friends enough again to pose for a picture with their works of art. (We even taped Nono's back together and then moved on with our lives.)

I don't know, maybe it really was the worst Valentine's Day ever...
