The big one

Last month Nono turned one! We had a little birthday part for him, which the boys were thrilled about - they love a party! We hung up some streamers, blew up some balloons, wrapped some presents, and baked some cupcakes for Nono's big day. Lots of people who love Nono came to celebrate with him on his special day.

Nono loved all the balloons. Loved them.

The cupcake on the other hand...well, just look at his face. You're probably thinking, "Hey, he is just worried because his cupcake is on fire!" Well, after the flame was extinguished by Paul he still didn't want anything to do with the cupcake.

Paul set it on his tray and he poked at it then started crying. And now I know you are wondering, "Why does he have frosting all over his mouth then?" Well...

he stuffed his little mouth full of cupcake and frosting equally, but only when Nana was holding the cupcake and feeding him. We tried to set it on the tray again for him to pick up and he resumed crying until Nana resumed feeding him again. King Nono.

Doesn't he look so pleased to be holding that present?

Nono LOVES books.

And jammies from Nana and Papa! I think this is a funny picture. He picked that little bow off of one of his presents and was holding onto it for the loooooongest time!

He may need some assistance from big brother to get the paper off of this one. (Still holding the bow...)

And the little boys got Nono a box of tissues - his own box of tissues to de-manage (remember that word from D?). I got the idea from a friend and I thought it was fabulous. I've caught Nono on more than one occasion trying to empty a perfectly good box of tissues, so why not give him his own box reserved for that sole purpose? Well...I don't know if he was too excited about all the great toys he got or what but he didn't touch those tissues. He actually did touch them, but he didn't pull any out. Not one! Talk about a huge letdown. So after several more unsuccessful attempts to get him to pull the tissues out, I just moved them into the boys room so they had their own box for nighttime booger extracting (gross). But they didn't really use them either (why would they when pillowcases and sheets work just as well??). So they sat there for a week or so, and then the morning we were supposed to be going out of town and I was frantically trying to pack up all the last minute stuff, D came in and said, "Mom, you've got to go see Lt. He's in big trouble." I thought, how much trouble could he get into - everything's packed! So when I went to see what the fuss was I found Lt sitting in the corner of his room surrounded by a huge pile of tissues. He had pulled out every single tissue. I laughed. Guess birthday shopping for him will be easy this year!

Now, back to the birthday boy. Nono is such a cute little guy. He loves playing with his brothers. He loves reading books (especially Barnyard Hullaballoo which I've read about 1,000 times...today...). He is a good eater and a not-so-good sleeper. Not sure what to do with that last one. He crawls like a maniac, stands up unassisted, and sometimes takes a few tiny steps. He likes pat-pats. He likes trying to sneak into the bathroom and then having someone race to grab him before he can make it. He likes climbing (yikes). He likes going for walks in the stroller. He loves the dishwasher. In addition to table food, he's sampled part of a wooden block, a Carnation instant breakfast package, crayons, a foam golf ball, and an eraser (and those are just things I've actually caught him eating). We love your sweet personality and your cute little face so much Nono! You make us all so happy! We are thrilled that you are part of our family!!
