Wacky: World Penguin Day

April 25 was World Penguin Day. D, of course, would have been beside himself if we didn't celebrate this holiday. He was really excited because he thought we would be having another penguin party (translate: dancing and throwing confetti around the family room). Well, the penguin party didn't happen, but we had lots of penguin-related fun anyway! I was looking for some penguin crafts online but didn't find any I was too excited about. When D got home from school I showed him some of the crafts I found. He wasn't too excited either. So he thought of a craft all by himself that he thought we should do. Since it was World Penguin Day, he thought we should make a world with penguins all over it. So we did.

Here's our world. No comments please from the geography buffs out there. It's more fun for the kids to just cut out shapes and glue them wherever they want than it is to watch mom sweat bullets as she tries to replicate Europe.

Now, Lt isn't too good at sitting still and doing crafts. He's much better at throwing balls and running around and bugging people. So when it's craft time, the sure fire way to keep him occupied is to give him the safety scissors and let him cut paper scraps. It's also the sure fire way to get holes in his t-shirts.

Here's the final product. Not too bad for a homegrown craft! (Lt is trying to copy D's smile.)

So after our extensive world penguin craft, we took it easy with some penguin coloring. Nice.

And then we rounded up all the books about penguins that we could and read them.

We read this one twice.

And to top off the day, we made some penguin finger puppets which I adored. The boys, not so much. They thought the thunder and lightning storm going on outside was way cooler. Stiff competition. I could barely get them to put them on their fingers long enough to take a picture.

What's in there?!? Wouldn't happen to be a cute little penguin finger puppet now, would it??
