Going green
St. Patrick's Day was fun! D kept saying what a busy day it was going to be because it was St. Patrick's Day, the boys had dentist appointments, AND the BYU basketball game was on. Phew!
We started the day with some light Internet reading about St. Patrick's Day. First, the real story about how St. Patrick introduced Christianity to Ireland, and then the not-so-real story about how St. Patrick banished all the snakes from Ireland. Guess which story D remembered? Snakes win.
We have a little paper leprechaun that we made last year (he's seen better days - next year I'll laminate him) that we hide around the house every day for the boys to find beginning on March 1st. On March 17th, he is not only hiding somewhere in the house, but is hiding with treats. And a rainbow. It wasn't hard to locate the stash (St. Patty's stickers and some gummy bears that I'm pretty sure were stale) this year because there were little green footprints all over the place.
Here's a picture of the leprechaun. Just kidding - it's D! The Jimmer shirt gives it away. But he does bear a striking resemblance to the leprechaun (I think the leprechaun would be jealous of D's beard though).
There's the real leprechaun! Hiding behind Lt's hat! And there's his lovely rainbow (I told you we were low-budget here)! And at this point all the treats had been consumed a long, long time ago...
Lucky guys!
"What!!! GREEN grapes??! In a GREEN bowl??!!?!" I do what I can. The boys were excited about all of the green things they got to eat. In addition to the green grapes, they had green milk (which made me cringe and I'm not sure I can do that again next year); green noodles (yup, I picked out all the green ones from the box of tri-color rotini); green salad featuring green peppers, cucumbers, and avocadoes (of which they only ate the cucumbers); limeade; edamame that they wouldn't touch even though it came in fun Spongebob Squarepants bags; and green apple pie and key lime yogurt. Any other green food ideas that don't involve using a bottle of green food coloring? I would've loved to have done green smoothies, but I don't have a cool blender...
D refused to exchange his Jimmer shirt for a shirt with green on it. I kept telling him he was going to get pinched. Paul kept telling him he wasn't going to get pinched. We made a shamrock (green pipe cleaner) and stuck it in his BYU hat, hoping that would solve the problem, but he wasn't wearing his hat all the time. So...we decided to put those washable markers to use. Both boys got green shams on their cheeks. Oh, and so did I, courtesy of D.
We made sure that baby brother wasn't going to get any pinches either by throwing on some green skater socks.

I love the leprechaun beard! And the baby socks. And we need to get us some Jimmer shirts too!
You don't have a cool blender because you gave it to me! Now I feel guilty because I buy green juice instead of making it myself. Love those awesome skater socks. And the cutest kids ever...I <3 the Barkers!
