Hairy helpers
After faithfully watching every episode of The Cat in the Hat, D decided that he and Lt would be Thing 1 and Thing 2 for Halloween this year. Great! Costumes that I could potentially make and not have to buy! Well, it took trips to four different stores in three different cities to find red sweats for the costumes (and even then I had to turn a sweater inside out). A few squares of felt and one blue boa later they were done - at 5pm on Halloween!!! Actually, D's was done a couple days earlier since he had a Halloween party at preschool.
On the morning of D's Halloween party he refused to wear his costume. Say what!? Yep. He flat out refused (said he was scared but wouldn't commit to what it was he was scared about). After many threats and bribes, he finally broke down (an hour late for preschool) and wore the sweats. He wouldn't wear the wig. So we put Lt in his sweats too, put the wig on him, and Paul took him to preschool with D. The kids loved Lt's costume!!! After D got home from preschool he mustered up the courage to put the wig on a couple of times - a good sign for future trick-or-treating!
Here's Lt - all ready to go to D's preschool!!

Here we are at around 4pm on Halloween trying to put together another wig before trick-or-treating time.
All right! We got them done! Too bad it was raining cats and dogs. I almost cried. I wanted them to wear their costumes so bad. Well, the rain broke after about an hour so Paul and Uncle Jeff hurried out with the boys. I thought they might go to a couple houses next door, but they actually hit almost every house on the block! Good thing Uncle Jeff was there to coach them on only grabbing the fruity candy (D's aversion to chocolate). D loved trick-or-treating and wasn't shy at all about knocking and saying "trick-or-treat". His first Halloween!! (Erika, did we win or did you?) Lt had a fabulous time. When people would hold out their candy bowls to him he would grab one and then he'd grab another and then another and then another until Paul instructed them to take their bowls away or Lt would keep grabbing candy!!! Way to go Lt! Both of the boys got a good amount of candy (something they don't see often in this house so it really is a treat for them). Maybe it will last them until Thanksgiving!
Here's an action shot of Things 1 and 2, in character.
And if they hadn't been able to go trick-or-treating after all, it wouldn't have mattered one bit to D. The World Series was on. I'm surprised we got him out of the house at all. Go Giants!!
