Look How Much We've Grown - 1 year & 4 years

Today the boys both had their well-child appointments...

Snacks now weighs 20 lbs 4 oz and is 29 1/2" tall. He is healthy as a horse. He didn't like being measured in any way, shape, or form. He didn't like having his heart listened to, teeth looked at, and ears examined. He didn't like having his stomach checked. He didn't like being held by a nurse while I had to help D get a urine sample (lol). And he really didn't like getting vaccinations. He did like opening all the cupboards in the exam room. He did like climbing on everything possible in the exam room. He did like sporting only a diaper for 30 minutes. He did like trying to snatch the doctor's stethoscope. And he did like being snuggled after his vaccinations (mommy liked it anyway). The only bad news from his appointment was that even though he's one and weighs 20 lbs, he shouldn't ride forward facing in his car seat until he's two!!!! Seriously!??!?? The forward-facing move is such a lifesaver for everyone's car-time sanity. Bummer. I am truly saddened by the news. If anybody wants us to visit via road trip, too bad. You will have to wait until at least August of 2010. For the loss. (Check this out for some interesting info about rear-facing.)

Since the big 3, D has gained roughly two pounds and has grown almost an inch. Typical D. Nothing to worry about. The good news is that since he gained more weight than he gained height, he has moved up in the percentage rankings in both weight and BMI. And that is the only way notable weight gain will ever happen for D, if he puts on more pounds than inches. Way to work the system, D! He didn't like having his blood pressure taken. At all. And he didn't like little brother getting shots (which the nurse thought was very cute). He did like climbing on everything possible in the exam room. He did like playing the "vision game" (20/16 in both eyes!). He did like giving the doctor a high-five. He did like filling his urine sample cup to almost overflowing (yikes!). He did like that his name was written on his urine sample cup. He did like choosing stickers for himself and for Snacks. And he especially liked not getting any vaccinations. The only bad news (that wasn't actually news) was that D is not getting enough protein in his diet. Because he is a self-appointed vegetarian. And now we have to figure out ways to coerce him into eating meat...or tofu...or something else that I don't know about? Does anyone have any good tips? I've tried bribery, and it doesn't work for D when it comes to food. Maybe the stakes aren't high enough...

Way to go brothers!!!

That's what they told us too about the forward facing stuff....we turned Landon around before he turned 2 but we did wait a little while after he turned 1. It is really a pain to have them backward facing!

Woohoo! A 2-for-1 at the doctor's office, huh? We're totally with you on the growth thing...at least with the first 2. Have you tried making him "smoothies" with protein powder in them?

lol that was a cute post! I can't believe they won't let snacks ride face forward for another year! is that a new policy? This may be gross but can you puree meat and hide it in his food somehow? you should check out the cookbook deceptively delicious by jessica seinfeld. You can find it at the library.

beans, cheese (cottage cheese especially), high protein breads (I found some bagels with 10g protein), protein shakes, protein bars. What about putting bacon on things?
One of the joys of being pregnant...I'm constantly thinking about how I'm going to get 80g in every day. :)

oh and cereal too. Kashi has a good amount. Alex loves the crunchy kashi and snacks on it all of the time. I know that mini wheats also have a decent amount and there are some others as well.
