At about 12:30 in the morning D woke up and he was really, really struggling to breathe. Croup! We hurried and bundled him up and took him outside hoping the cold night air would provide some relief for him. It didn't. Paul called 911 and they really wanted to send an ambulance, but Paul figured we could drive to the ER faster ourselves. Did I mention that our car is STILL IN THE SHOP?? So I called our neighbors, they brought their car over, and we were off - Britney Spears style! Once we were in the car and driving, D was trying to talk, which was good sign, but he just sounded terrible and his breathing was so labored. He asked, "Where's Bill?" who was visiting our house right before D went to bed. Ha ha! He could hardly breathe and all he was worried about was where Bill was.
We definitely picked the right ER to go to. There was nobody else there (but we still had to wait). Once we got into a room and D got checked out, he got a breathing treatment and then some medicine. He did so good and didn't cry once - not even when he got weighed (that's usually when he really stresses out). He let the doctors and nurses do their thing and was very patient. He took his breathing treatment with minimal complaint (after a few minutes of breathing the nasty medicine he said "Better, daddy" to let us know that he was all better and didn't need any more nebulizer). At the end of our stay, our friendly nurse in red scrubs gave D this little stuffed bear that he snuggled when he went to sleep that night, er, morning.

He still has a bad cough but he can breathe normally and he slept all night last night! I'm sure that the new trains from Paul and Uncle Jon (for being so brave in the ER) have contributed greatly to his recovery.

Aww..poor D.
Good thing he's a trooper (maybe he had a master plan to get those trains)
how scary...I'm glad he's doing better
Oh! Poor little guy! He is such a sweetie. Glad he's okay!
That's scary (child not breathing, the ER in the middle of the night, and the nebulizer). It's all a little surreal while it's happening. Very glad he's doing better.
He's a tough kid...I'm so glad he's doing better. I'm guessing that will not be his last trip to the ER!
So glad that D is feeling better. Bruce had to go through 10 days of nebulizer treatment when he was about D's age. We never watched "Cars" more. It's the only way we'd get him to sit still for so long and breathe. It's also the first time we were introduced to "Praxair" where the nebulizer came from.
Anyways, we wish a full recovery and all the best to your family!
