Déjà vu
Let me assure you before you begin reading this that you aren’t having déjà vu and you aren’t reading a previous post… I haven’t been able to update the blog for a while because little D has been sick. You guessed it – another ear infection. This was by far the worst one yet. He ran a fever for three days, was so congested he could hardly eat, and threw up all over our bed two nights in a row. Needless to say, we didn’t get any sleep for a few nights (we includes me, Paul, and Davis). [Note: I don’t think there is any other time you feel as utterly helpless as when you are tryig to console an inconsolable baby.] We finally took little D to the doctor since he didn’t seem to be getting better on his own and were sent home with a familiar diagnosis and another round of antibiotics. We decided to play the offense with this round, however, and started the baking soda baths on day one in hopes of warding off the menacing diaper rash. I’m sure it helped a little, but it was all for not because by day six of the antibiotics Davis was still angry and pulling at his ears…so we took him back to the doctor. After a highly invasive ear examination (I’m positive that’s how Davis felt because of all of the screaming), the doctor informed us that the immortal infection was still there sucker punching little D’s eardrum. That left us with two options: 1) keep up the anti’s for four more days to see if they would eventually end up working or 2) give little D a super-charged antibiotic shot that day and the two subsequent days. We obviously opted for the shots…not just because of the diaper rash (which did go away the day after he stopped taking the antibiotics), but because we wanted him to stop feeling so miserable already. There was some discussion in the doctor’s office about ear tubes if he can’t kick this infection or if he gets another one before his nine-month appointment at the end of May. We are keeping our fingers crossed..
The only highlight to all of the drama was the invasion of the Perkins. It was a celebration weekend for my dad’s, Paul’s, and Jeff’s birthdays, which are all about a week apart (any excuse to get together really…). We did lots of shopping, eating, and my mom even helped me with some home improvement projects! It was awesome! While Davis was a little apprehensive at first, by the end of their visit he was totally enthralled with his own personal fan club. Even though he wasn’t feeling 100%, you could tell he was trying his best to be charming. He was always showboating his new pirate grin (exposed bottom teeth, right eye closed) and talking like crazy. The day that everybody left, he woke up from his nap and was instantly searching the house, obviously wondering where his entourage was and why mommy wasn’t cheering for him every time he took a bite of cereal. Mommy was only left wondering why enormous burps are only funny if they come out of Uncle Jeff…
Here are a few bonus pics of little D and one of his favorite pastimes: eating books

So cute! Hope little D gets better soon and has no use for tubes!
What a sweetie...but ear infections are NO FUN (for Mom OR Baby)! Haddie got RSV around his same age and it was an utter and complete nightmare for everyone!
And of course, I'd be honored to be linked. :-)
Ang- Long time, no talk! I had a funny conversation with Paul the other day about Lost, but I didn't get to hear about Davis's ear trauma/drama. I am so sorry to hear about that! The poor guy :( Please keep us up to date on that. He looks cuter than ever though, as always!! I will be in Utah in just about two weeks, so I look forward to seeing you guys then. Much love, Becca
