The zoo

Our very last day in California we decided to drive south and visit the San Diego Zoo. It is such a beautiful zoo! Paul and I went there once...about 10 years ago...

We didn't tell D where we were going, we just told him it was going to be a big surprise (the kid loves animals). So he sat patiently in the car for about an hour (actually he was probably sleeping?) until we got to the zoo. It was pretty crowded, probably because it was a Saturday, but once we got walking it wasn't so bad. And we did plenty of walking. We rented strollers at the zoo because we didn't bring any with us and we pushed those mammoth things around for close to four hours. We saw almost the entire zoo. Beautiful.

We kind of missed lunch due to driving and nap schedules, so D had a bag of Cheetos for lunch. A little snack bag that cost four bucks!!! (Looks like D could use a couple more hours of sleep. Too much vacation partying!)

Nobody even noticed when we traded the boys for these two monkeys...

Poor little Snacks was super exhausted by the end of the zoo. Nap time was about two hours ago. Regardless of his lack of sleep, he was a happy little guy the whole time. He was just yelling away in the stroller (happy yelling) and people kept looking at us to see who was making all of the ruckus.

Why is it that the coolest animal in the zoo is a lizard on the sidewalk?? I remember at the Hogle Zoo last year D couldn't get enough of the sparrows eating crumbs off of the sidewalk. Hmmm.
Lizards = free; zoo = not so free

How fun! I love doing stuff like that with kids because they eat it up. So stinkin' cute!
