Trickers

The weather the week before Halloween was so blah that we didn't get a chance to go to a quaint little pumpkin patch for pumpkin selection. Instead, on Friday night Paul and D ran to the market and picked up four huge pumpkins. When I saw them I panicked and asked Paul how much money he spent on pumpkins. Well, at nine cents a pound, it was less than five dollars. Whew. At one of those quaint little patches I'm sure it would've cost around twenty dollars. But they were cheap with reason - I've never seen such stringy pumpkins in my life. And Paul's pumpkin began rotting the second he cut into it (we threw it away today). It's a good thing we waited until Halloween day to carve them! We used our usual kitchen utensils for carving - semi-dull knives, Pampered Chef bread pan scraper, and spoons. Oh, and we waited until Snacks was fast asleep.

About thirty seconds into cleaning out his pumpkin, D announced that he was done. Because it was taking "sooooo long". Well, he wasn't getting off the hook that easy. He scraped those guts out until his pumpkin was sparkling! Well, maybe not sparkling, but most of the stringy stuff and all of the seeds were cleaned out.

He was much more excited about drawing the faces on his pumpkin (and Paul's). He did a good job - they turned out pretty spooky! He also liked popping the eyes, nose, and mouth out after the pieces were cut.

Pretty good, right?

Here's the line up...

After Snacks woke up, we took a picture of all the pumpkins.

Oh, and not to leave out Trick-or-Treating, this picture should pretty much sum it all up. This little pterodactyl did not want to go. Not even a little bit. Well, we convinced him (I don't know why) to go to three houses. He got six lollipops, some Dots, and a piece of licorice.

Even though the costume bit was a bust, D really liked all of the "Trickers" coming to our house. He watched out the window and would tell us when the "Trickers" were coming. Then after they left we had to rehash everybody's costume. Every time. Lots of pirates and princesses. And Snacks, well, Snacks just wanted to get a hold of the candy bowl. That was his night's mission. He succeeded when there were six pieces of candy left. And he took them all out of the bowl and then put them all back in...

The pumpkins look great! That's funny you had to rehash all the costumes; I hope you didn't get too many "treeters"! ;)

Awesome pumpkins!
D and X are twins. We took X to a trunk or treat and couldn't get him out of the trunk. :)

The pout-y pterodactyl is adorable! You're so lucky he's doesn't have a crazy sweet tooth like my boys...they are always motivated by candy. Always.

Hey Ang, I did bake a giant cupcake for Ty's birthday. I got the giant muffin tin at a craft store. (You can get them at Michaels or Roberts.) It's a Wilton brand tin. Much more fun for a birthday kid than the normal size cupcake, don't you think??
