Spelling bee

(Some thoughts on the English language since helping D learn how to read...)

English is a very weird thing people. Some things just seem to have no real purpose, like the letter "G" having two sounds (G and J). Really? Couldn't the "J" just cover all the "J" sounds (i.e. jiraffe, jiant, jerm)?? There are other phonetic oddities that are too hard to explain without being able to talk, so I'll stop there. But you get the idea.

No matter how many times I throw the "QU" up on the fridge, D insists on this spelling of "squid". It's hard to argue.

And completely unrelated, here is a cute little picture of a smiley little brother (whose nickname has morphed and is now "snacks").

Your kids crack me up. I literally have to read your blog to Thaus because it is so funny. He is not a fan of blogging but even he cracks up when I tell him the stuff D does.

Woah, smart kid! I'm totally impressed. Even Alison's 1st grade teacher stresses the importance of letting kids spell phonetically instead of trying to correct them all the time. I think the word should be spelled how it sounds...skwid! Way to go D!
